The Hall Extension |
|
|
By the late 1990s it was becoming clear that our facilities just no
longer met the needs of our fellowship and expanding village community. Where were mothers to change their
babies? How could the disabled get
around without having to negotiate steps and a narrow corridor? How could another kitchen refit meet
today’s standards? In addition the
Sunday School and expanding Youth activities were in need of more space and
another meeting room.
The extension nears completion (September 2004) After much prayer and after examining several alternatives we
finally went ahead in 2004 with the new facilities block, extending the
Victorian Hall with a new kitchen with servery, new toilets including modern
facilities for the disabled and changing space for babies, and an upper
meeting room. We received several generous gifts and grants, including ones from
SITA Environmental Trust and Cherwell District Council; and a favourable loan
from the Baptist Union Loan Fund. A
number of local fundraising initiatives were launched including the highly
successful slide shows of 19th and 20th century life in
Hook Norton, and the Historical Hook Norton calendar (now a collectors’
item!). |
“Unless the LORD builds
the house, its builders labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the
city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.” Psalm 127:1 (NIV) “Someone will say ’You
have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show
you my faith by what I do. You believe
that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder. James 2:18,19 (NIV) |
